This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.

the service here is completely despicable. our waitress (woman with a lip tattoo on her neck) never wrote down our order and after an hour, we only received 2/6 things we ordered. not to mention, one of those two items was also incorrect. we asked for a manager to come numerous times but they were nowhere to be found. the entire time, our waitress was walking past us as if we weren’t even there. she continued to serve people who came in after us, looking us in the eye as she was taking and writing down other orders. she eventually came back around and didn’t even let us speak before giving the excuse that she got distracted and paid $50 of our order. we were trying to explain to her that we had places to be immediately after and we were running on a tight schedule before she just walked away. she came back later with a bunch of cash, saying that this was money coming out of her own pocket before slamming it on the table with a “gracias” and storming away. we’ve never felt so disrespected by a server in our lives, and i could only imagine how my partner felt because this was his birthday dinner. no accountability taken whatsoever, were given completely attitude, and we all left hung

We ordered the super thin crust pizza but received a normal crust which my wife doesn't prefer. We asked about it and was told they made a mistake in the kitchen and asked if we wanted a new one. We declined and just ate the pizza we received. I will say though the owner took 30% off our pizza and gave us a buy one get 50% off coupon for our next pizza order. He was very apologetic about what happened but wanted us to be happy. That is a great way to run your business. We will come back because of that. Great guy! And kudos to the business. Please check it out. Good place to eat or have a drink.

The service was excellent. The spinach artichoke dip was delicious, and the chips were hot and freshly made. The 10 piece boneless wings with Alamo sauce were honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. Juicy chicken, light crispy batter, and the perfect amount of sauce. 10/10, definitely coming back.

Hidden inside The Walnut Speakeasy, this cozy spot is a great find in Elgin. The green onion soup is rich and comforting, and their ½-lb hamburgers are absolutely mouth-watering—juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Every bite was delicious! Definitely a place worth visiting if you’re craving a great burger in a relaxed atmosphere. 🍔

Contrary to the name, this place is a sports bar not a speakeasy. That said, the food is quite good and the menu is large. Pours are measured so that's a minus but the prices are fair. Service can be hit or miss but the staff are generally friendly and attentive. Kitchen stays open late which is a plus.
